Amplifying Queer Muslim Voices
Maruf Messages is a platform dedicated to making queer Muslim voices heard, driving forward essential conversations on intersectionality, inclusion, and human rights. Through Maruf Messages, we engage audiences by hosting events, delivering talks, collaborating with partners, and participating as guest speakers at national and international gatherings. This initiative brings our advocacy to life, ensuring the experiences and perspectives of queer Muslims are recognized, valued, and acted upon.
Public Talks, Panels, and Debates
Maruf Messages organizes and participates in discussions on key issues at the intersection of Islam, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism. In 2018, for instance, we hosted a series of conversations in Amsterdam, reaching over 300 attendees. Topics included anti-Black racism within Muslim communities, mental health challenges facing queer Muslims, and future societal trends impacting the community. By addressing these issues head-on, Maruf Messages fosters open, sometimes difficult, conversations that empower and inform both the queer Muslim community and society at large.
Maruf Academy & Advocacy
An extension of Maruf Messages, Maruf Academy has provided public education, advocacy, and policy guidance for over six years. Through lectures, workshops, dialogues, and policy consultations, Maruf Academy supports schools, municipalities, and organizations to address intersectionality and diversity. In 2017 and 2018, Maruf collaborated with municipalities in the Netherlands to integrate these values into their policy frameworks, advancing social acceptance and the visibility of queer Muslims in public life.
