The European Queer Muslim Network (EQMN) is a pioneering platform dedicated to empowering queer and trans Muslim leaders across Europe. Hosted by Maruf, EQMN serves as a vital network for activists, organizations, and informal groups working to advance social acceptance, equality, and justice for queer Muslims on the continent.
Vision
EQMN envisions a Europe free from discrimination, where everyone takes shared responsibility for valuing the diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities, expressions, religions, beliefs, and convictions.
Mission
EQMN’s mission is to unite queer Muslims, their allies, activists, and organizations, fostering a supportive network that empowers leaders and strengthens the queer Muslim movement across Europe.
Goals
EQMN is dedicated to:
- Combating discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, religion, and belief.
- Supporting and empowering leaders within the queer Muslim communities to drive positive change.
- Building a sustainable and resilient queer Muslim movement across Europe.
- Advancing social acceptance of queer Muslims and promoting an inclusive society.
How We Achieve This
To accomplish our mission and goals, EQMN employs a range of strategies, including:
- Capacity Building: We focus on equipping EQMN members with leadership skills and resources to strengthen their communities.
- Knowledge Sharing: Through peer-to-peer exchanges, best practice sharing, and resources, we promote effective methods and innovative approaches in organizing.
- Annual Gatherings: Each year, EQMN hosts a meeting for mutual support, reflection, and collaboration, fostering connections across Europe.
- Collaboration and Engagement: We facilitate bi- and multilateral collaborations to enhance collective impact.
